Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
It is "commandment Thursday" and the crucifixion is Friday. Only Precious words are left. He calls this one a MUST DO, a commandment: Love One Another.

My surprise is that when Jesus told the disciples that "someone" would betray Him, they had no idea who this possibly could be! They didn't even have a good guess.

An effective KICK is 6x the power of a punch. When we learn Judas "lifted up his HEEL" to Jesus we might pay particular attention. He's the bad example at the washing of the feet.
The good example is…
I am washed. I am clean. But, I am NOT STATIONARY.
Service is the engine that makes the Church run
HIS SERVICE to us is the engine that makes us run to SERVICE.

You gotta love Peter. With one sentence from Jesus, He moves from "You will NEVER wash my feet" to "You should wash my feet and the rest of me NOW".

Today we hear Jesus Himself say "...I did not come to judge the world..." Why is that? Well, because you are judged already. You have been judged. You stand in current judgment. You will be judged. Y…
What is God's role in human belief?
He will draw the soul of those that will believe. He will harden the heart of those who will not. All who come to Christ do so on the heels of God's enabling grace…
Point #1: You don't have much time. This is no time to be yawning.
Point #2: Meantime, you are being HUNTED. Darkness is trying actively to overtake you. You have threats being arrayed against you.

Jesus drops 3 truth bombs on some curious gentiles:
1.Maximal fruitfulness is CONDITIONED upon death & death determines fruitfulness

Jesus is going to have a salvation party. The question is: "Who is invited"? Today, as has been true throughout spiritual history, we find that the Gentiles, aka "greeks", are invited to this party a…
Everybody loves the popular, powerful and successful Jesus. They are singing songs and imprinting their preferences on Jesus. The problem with this great support is that it is a mile wide but only a…
The great irony of Lazarus being raised from the dead is that he then gets to live and die a second time. His new life is still fragile and wonderful. He acts as a beacon to Jesus' power, so Lazarus…
Worship should be wildly committed, radically positioned in the human experience, public, costly and urgent. With a great nod to SNL's year 2000 skit, worship is to give Jesus MORE COWBELL.

If you knew a friend were to die in a week or so, would you throw a dinner party? That's what Mary, Martha and Lazarus did. They responded to the call of their day: "What might I do on the day that I…
The nasty Caiaphas speaks words about Jesus that are truer than he knows: it is better that 1 should die than the whole nation (and the whole world) should perish. This describes Jesus' mission in a …
The resurrection of Jesus is the singular core belief of Christianity. If you don't believe in the resurrection, I cannot see how you could be a Christian. It is so important, that Jesus gives us a …
When Jesus tells death to do something, death faithfully obeys.
Death is loyal to the commands of God.
When God speaks authoritatively Death answers faithfully.
I hope that we can at least be as good ex…
Borrowing from Julius Caesar, "I came, I saw, I conquered" Jesus does that over death, but first He weeps.
Jesus weeps because He loves people. Every person who has ever lived has felt the sting of d…
"The Teacher is here and is calling for YOU."
Mary hears that Jesus is calling for her specifically.
Everyone who comes to belief has that exact, specific, individual call. Yes, Jesus comes to save "T…
