Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio has prepared a 26-week series, as part of the Coimisuin Na Mean’s Sound and Vision programmeit’s entitled ”A Parent’s Guide to Social Media”. We’ve creating a comprehensive guide for parents and guardians of the positives and negatives of social media, and aim to give them a better understanding of how the different platforms work and what to watch out for when your children are online. We start with some basic tips, what are the main platforms, how suitable are they for different age groups, what are signs that we should be watching for and are there any simple things that we can do to make our home internet environment safer? We take a look at some of the common scams and threats, from romance scams to the dangers of online grooming and also risks from activity like ”money mules” which can see teens dragged into criminal activity. We also focus an episode on each of the main platforms, we’ll also be speaking to Influencers and organisations that offer advice and support. Each episode will be broadcast on air, and then made available as a podcast.
