A riff of the classic road movie, 1989's Powwow Highway has an undeniable charm.  While not sugarcoating reservation life and the particular struggles of post VietNam War Natives, it avoids the pitfalls of hopelessness and poverty porn. There is sly humor and complex depictions of implicit racisms.
