Oregon’s House Legislature unanimously passed a bill recognizing August twenty-five as Adoption Day. It’s highly personal for Lucetta Elmer, a sponsor of the bill. This is also the day she was adopted as a baby. Among the state legislators are members who are adopted, have adopted children, or have adopted grandchildren. One is the result of a biracial relationship, something frowned upon in nineteen sixty-eight. It’s an effort to tell those adopted they are seen, loved and matter. But there’s terrible irony in that just weeks before Oregon’s pro-abortion governor signed a proclamation declaring March ten as Abortion Provider Appreciation Day. They appreciate abortionists but then celebrate the babies who escaped the killers’ scalpels, injections and other brutal tools of death.
