Hello and welcome to your Greek Word on A Sunday. A weekly , bite-size podcast for anyone curious on language, etymology and connections. I am your host Emmanuela Lia and wherever you are in the world if you want to entertain your brain for a few minutes, this is the podcast for you. Let's go!
Today's word is a perfect example to use as a reply to those asking why don't I go deeper in these little words and their definition. When most Greek words are connected either with long myths or Greek philosophy that's a job for a linguist or a philosopher, and I'm neither. Οραω-Ορώ(orao-oro) is the irregular verb for 'see'. The infinitive is Ιδειν (idin) 'to see' to describe what I see based on my own understanding of it. To form an ΙΔΕΑ in Plato is directly connected with the word 'archetype'. The one, the original thought that gave something, anything, its definition. The very same word that we use today to describe anything new that comes to our minds an IDEA
