#110 - 2021 MTV VMAs / The Metallica Blacklist / Pat Metheny

It’s Nick’s topic but everyone helps fill out a discussion on the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. The show was a bit of a mess and the majority of the performances were lackluster, but DJ Cummerbund took home an award, so we have that to celebrate!

Coming off the great conversation with Honest Lee last week, Greg’s been keeping an eye out for other tribute albums & The Metallica Blacklist just dropped last week. A tribute to Metallica’s Black Album, celebrating it’s 30th Anniversary this year, it contains over 4 hours of covers by a wild range of artists. We listen to a few and discuss how The Black Album changed Metallica’s trajectory and opened them up to a much wider audience.

Finally, Jay uses the just released Pat Metheny Side-Eye V1.IV live album to come clean about his lifelong dislike of Metheny’s sound. He has recently come around though on Metheny’s 1976 breakthrough Bright Size Life. This album was hugely influential for Greg and he’s been trying to get Jay to listen to it for years. Mission Accomplished.
