This episode features songs about loneliness and being alone.
Songwriters like to write about emotions. One popular theme is to write about loneliness or being alone. Irish singer Gilbert O’Sullivan starts off this week’s program with his poignant Alone Again (Naturally). The Bee Gees follow with a rather anguished Lonely Days. Legendary singer Roy Orbison reminds us of his fine voice with his first hit Only The Lonely. Another sublime voice is Karen Carpenter’s as she gives a knockout performance on the Neil Sedaka song Solitaire. Other songs are Neil Diamond’s Solitary Man and Linda Ronstadt’s fine rendition of Blue Bayou. But one of the greatest songs ever written about loneliness is Eleanor Rigby from The Beatles.
