I've been watching two very different retirement stories unfold. My wife's 70-something father in Nagano is busier than ever - volunteering, organizing festivals, helping newcomers at the local senior center. Meanwhile, my parents back in Tokyo seem... well, let's just say they're living very differently.
It got me thinking about the whole FIRE movement. We're all chasing financial independence so we can quit our jobs and be "free." But what if freedom without purpose is actually kind of miserable?
