Follow the adventures of Ess Fremont, who runs away from an oppressive boarding school when her grandparents go missing. Disguised, as a boy, she encounters Secret Service agents, Pinkertons, rebels, circus performers, and President Lincoln. She uses her wits and her grandparents' inventions while hunting for her missing brother, and hoping someday to find out the truth about her grandparents' fate.

Episode 17/Chapter 13:  Ess joins the Secret Service. Her first assignment: join the circus to watch over the owner, a war hero with enemies who have long memories.
