This week on Wyrd Wessex, the Wyrdos are on the first leg of their summer road trip, exploring some of the West Country's most haunted locations.
We cover:
- Knowlton Rings: We visit a ruined church built on a pagan henge and discuss the legend of a ghost bell, a menacing black figure, and a listener's story about a spooky witch photoshoot.
- Wind Whistle Hill: We pull over on the infamous A30, a hotspot for UFOs and the supernatural. We delve into its history of murderous highwaymen and a spectral witch, before getting into a local family's terrifying accounts of a cigar-shaped UFO, missing time, and a bizarre "long-legged" cryptid.
- Wistman's Wood: The journey takes us to the eerie, ancient forest on Dartmoor, the home of the terrifying Wish-Hounds and mischievous piskies. We also explore the legend of the witch of Vixen Tor as the mists roll in.
- Campfire Stories: We end the day camping on the moor and sharing stories of the Beast of Dartmoor, inexplicable animal mutilations, the sad and mysterious tale of Jay's Grave, and the grim folklore of Child's Tomb.
- The Verdict on Buckfast: The hosts try the infamous tonic wine from the monks of Buckfast Abbey.
