It was big news when the founder of Rolling Stone magazine spelled out his view that the musical geniuses are white men, and artists who happen to be Black or women don’t have much to say that’s worth hearing. Allison Russell is one Black woman whose artistry and activism is taken seriously, and after last week’s Americana Music Awards, she has the trophy to show it. She’s also WNXP’s Nashville Artist of the Month for September.
