There’s a new development in the fight over gates at O’Hare Airport. American Airlines is asking a court for an injunction to block the awarding of more gates to United Airlines. The City of Chicago is reallocating gates and United is poised to gain five gates. American will lose four gates. The city is reallocating gates under a provision in the lease agreement with the airlines that includes a use it or lose it provision. American claims the city breached the contract and is asking for an injunction to stop the process. If the changes go through, United will have about 42% of the space at O’Hare and American will have 30%.
