EPISODE TRANSCRIPT

Today I want to give you permission (if you feel you need it!) to make the thing that you are curious or interested or just simply just want to make for fun. I give you permission to make it.

Now, there is no rule that says you MUST make this thing. And you MUST share it with everyone. And you MUST get 10,000 likes on the internet and everybody must like your thing.

There's no rule about creating.

We are born to create…look at a toddler!

…Collecting all sorts of bits and pieces

… putting them on paper

… scribbling

… making messes.

It's not the product that matters.

It's the creating.

And you know what? You can throw it away afterwards for all I care! The courage comes in the making of it, not in the results.

If you love the results, that's a bonus. That's the icing on the cake.

The cake is the making - the creating! The trusting in the next move of your paintbrush, or your whisk or your footsteps or your words or your pen or your keyboard. Creating requires us to be in that moment only. It is very near impossible to make something while you are also reading a book at the same time. It is very near to impossible to make something when you are thinking about a trillion other things and trying to multitask and trying to be there for everybody. What I want to give you permission to do today is to listen to yourself and to allow yourself the time to make something.

Iit might be a scribble on a page. It might be a two minute quick blurb; or maybe you have time to sink in and follow this inkling for as long as it takes and wherever it takes you. Maybe you're going to start and stop and start and stop again.

Maybe you're going to start and realize this is enough and it's done. Even when it's only halfway done. Maybe this creativity only wants to take you as far as perhaps drawing half of a face. But you don't quit because it's getting hard – That's just all there was.

You have permission to create in your life in any way you want. Whenever you want, wherever you want however you want. You don't have to show anybody. You don't need to tell anybody. You don't have to get anything for it.

The creating –  that's it. That's the end game. You don't have to be a professional artist. You don't have to be the top of the line baker. Your cakes don't have to be on TV shows.

ALLl you need to do is listen to the inkling of being curious to do this thing.

When it's finished, you could leave it in a cart at the grocery store… maybe somebody would pick it up and say oh my god, I cannot believe that somebody left this this is so exciting. This is a gift! This is amazing!

Or you could even throw it away. You could!

You have permission to do whatever you'd like with this because the end game, the finish line has already been met. You have taken the time to make it whatever it is. And that's that. There's no attachment needed here. There's no expectation needed. You don't have to think ahead to what you're going to do with this, how much money you're going to sell it for, who you're going to give it to. Sure, all of those things have their place. But today the permission is ONLY for you to make whatever you want with the little inkling in your heart. Perhaps you're going to pick up some of your kid’s clay and make what seems to be the silliest, strangest, weirdest creature of life. But did you have fun? Did you spark joy in yourself by giving yourself permission to just follow whatever happens?

I'm going to show you some of the bizarro things that I have made when I follow this inkling. I look at them after and I think that it's just so strange! It's almost ugly, but also it's beautiful, because the process of making it was so beautiful. Because the process of making it helps me to reconnect to that inner child that wants to create! We forget as humans that one of the most ingrained things in us is to MAKE. We can talk about it in terms of evolution or of reproduction. We want to make more people!

Inside us is simply an urge to make, to show something, to be more than just just a human body. We want to have something in front of us that we've created, and there's nothing wrong with that. Because creation is who we are.

We could go even a little bit more esoteric and say if we are divine and if we are spirit in human form, then maybe we are all gods in our own way. And what does God do? He creates, she morphs, she creates, she brings life.

You have that in you and so do I. Of course we want to create, and it looks different for all of us. Maybe you sing, maybe you dance, maybe you cook, maybe you write.

I know there's something that has come to mind for you. Maybe it's something you used to really love to do when you were a kid; maybe it's something you always thought you just weren't good at? Maybe it's something that somebody discouraged you from, and said, “Oh, you're tone deaf! You can't sing.”

But you love it.

Maybe it's simply something that you saw somebody else do when you thought oh, I can't do THAT, but you've always been curious. Whatever the thing is that you're thinking of right now..

You have full, full full permission to try it! To go for it! To enjoy it!

And there's no expectation of anything more.

That's the end game. All you’ve got to do is create.

If you would like to see some of my creations, the images and the transcript for this podcast are always online at Alexiswild.com/podcast. You could have a giggle if you'd like, or perhaps in my sharing of my creations,  you feel even more inclined to make something silly because it does feel amazing!

I wish this for you. Go go go go go create! You're meant for it. You're made for it.
