The terms "toxic" and "Narcissist" have been used a lot recently...especially on social media. These terms are often misused and overused in describing ex-friends or ex-partners who have hurt you or exhibited really selfish or ego-centric behaviour.
But, when you have been in the clutches of a true Narcissist or broadline personality disordered person or anyone with a true clinical personality disorder...it's far worse than having your feelings hurt or not having your needs met.
To be truly abused by a personality disordered person, causes long term, deep rooted damage to the psyche, nervous system and mental health.
Joining host Jennie on todays episode is Dr. Sherrie. She is a licensed Psychologist, specialising in psychotherapy including marriage and family therapy, childhood trauma and personality, or as she describes it, character, disorders. Dr. Sherrie is also the author of several books including "Adult Survivors of Toxic Family Members". Jennie and Dr. Sherrie dive deep into the challenges and struggles of parallel parenting with a personality disordered ex, the long term damage a toxic parent has on a child and how to mitigate the risks of that damage. Dr Sherrie shares some tangible and applicable tips and tools on how to have the right conversations with your kids at the right time, and how to protect your own peace whilst maintaining a healthy relationship with your child.
