Trigger Warning: Alcoholism and Addiction
In line with "Dry January" and starting a new year, this episode is a continuation of this months focus on reassessing your relationship with alcohol and shinning a light on the ways we, as a society and the media, normalise and encourage its consumption; bombarding us with toxic and confusing messaging from childhood through to adulthood.
Alcohol is listed as the MOST harmful drug (above heroine and crack cocaine), and is destroying millions of lives and families every year; costing the NHS billions year on year and being the biggest cause and risk factor for death, ill health, disease and disability among 15 to 49 year olds in the UK. None of us are in the dark about what alcohol actually is - a drug. Yet, most of us refuse to acknowledge our own relationship with and even laugh off the destructive realities surrounding it.
On this weeks episode, host Jennie is joined by Millie Gooch. She is the Author of 'Booze Less' and the Founder of Sober Girl Society. She is also an Ambassador for Alcohol Change UK. Millie has also been sober for 7 years. Millie candidly shares her challenges and issues with her own alcohol abuse and details the realisations that drove her to becoming sober. She talks about the conscious choices she made and continues to make in living life alcohol free.
