I remember the time I would travel in crowded trains in Mumbai - years ago, when I still lived there. I recall how careful i had to be to hold onto something so I didn’t lose my balance while the train was moving. I learned the fine art of engaging my core muscles so i could be still even on a moving train, I had to find a way to sway with the movement of the train but not lose my balance. The last few weeks, months, years have occasionally felt overwhelming like those crowded, fast trains. This has made me curious about practices that can help us hold-on to our sense of calm and peace despite what life throws at us. It isn’t about learning to ignore things - it is about learning to ride the wave. So this episode is about the concept of “equanimity” - the word for mental calmness and evenness of emotion, especially in a difficult situation.
