Adtech startup funding in 2024 has reached its lowest level in over a decade, with U.S. advertising-focused startups raising only about $360 million. The decline in investment is attributed to market saturation, increased regulatory pressures from laws like GDPR and CCPA, and economic uncertainties. Mature adtech companies, including The Trade Desk, DoubleVerify, Magnite, Taboola, and PubMatic, remain stable. Major internet companies like Google and Meta also maintain significant adtech capabilities. Despite the overall funding slump, some adtech startups have secured substantial rounds, such as The Brandtech Group with $115 million, Kevel with $23 million, and Vibe with $22.5 million. Anindya Ghose from NYU Stern suggests a potential rebound in adtech startup funding, particularly for those leveraging AI, although 2021 funding levels may not return.
