Who Will Dominate the AI Startup Investment Race

Microsoft and Nvidia lead AI investments, with Nvidia, Salesforce Ventures, and Cisco recently investing $450 million in AI startup Cohere and Cisco launching a $1 billion AI investment fund. This year, Microsoft and Nvidia have prominently invested in AI startups, with Microsoft’s notable investments including a multi-billion dollar investment in OpenAI and $1.5 billion in UAE-based AI firm G42. Nvidia has participated in 10 funding rounds this year, including $1 billion for Scale AI, $675 million for Figure, and $640 million for Mistral AI. Google’s venture arm GV has made smaller investments focusing on seed rounds, while other firms like Qualcomm and Salesforce remain active but involved in fewer deals. Additionally, the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department are examining Microsoft, OpenAI, and Nvidia for potential regulatory scrutiny, potentially impacting future investments. In May, AI companies raised $12.5 billion, representing 40% of venture funding that month.
