North America's dominance in startup funding continues to grow, driven by artificial intelligence investments. In the first half of this year, the United States and Canada pulled in $80.1 billion in venture capital, with about 30% going to AI-focused startups, raising just over $24 billion. North American companies captured 54% of global venture funding. Asia's share decreased, with startups receiving $33.8 billion, down 17% from last year, and China experiencing its worst quarter for venture funding since late 2015. Europe saw an increase, with startups raising $28.5 billion, and for the first time in a decade, quarterly funding to European startups exceeded that of Asia, with AI being the top industry. Africa, Latin America, and Oceania account for less than 5% of global venture investment.
