In Q2 2024, global venture funding reached $79 billion, the highest in five quarters, driven by mega-rounds and AI investments. Mega-rounds of $100 million and above showed confidence in late-stage companies. AI funding doubled to $24 billion, with significant investments in companies like xAI, CoreWeave, Wayve, Scale AI, and Xaira Therapeutics. U.S. and Canadian startups saw a funding increase to $45.3 billion, boosted by AI investments reaching $16.8 billion. Asian startups experienced their worst quarter since 2015, raising $14.6 billion, with AI-related funding at $2.5 billion. For the first time in a decade, Europe surpassed Asia in quarterly funding, reaching $16 billion with strong late-stage AI investments. South and Central American startups raised $791 million, with a focus on Brazil, Mexico, and the fintech sector. Despite a slight uptick in some areas, the overall venture funding outlook remains challenging.
