Slow & Low: Chicago’s Lowrider Festival returns to Navy Pier’s festival hall on Oct. 21. Co-founder Lauren Pacheco stopped by the Vocalo studios to discuss what attendees can expect. Founded in 2011, the festival celebrates lowrider culture and heritage as an original form of American folk art. Pacheco shared the festival started with humble origins, bringing together about 50 cars in the alley behind her and her brother’s Pilsen gallery space. Now, the festival is set to showcase more than 300 cars, 100 motorcycles and bicycles and an array of artistic experiences. What started as a small gathering in the Pilsen community has grown into a massive, curated celebration of lowriders in the Midwest.
