English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sampha hit the Riviera Theatre in Chicago on Nov. 1 in support of his new album ‘Lahai.’ Though an artist with a reserved and gentle nature, Sampha notes the stage feels like home — whether at an intimate venue or in front of thousands at a festival. The album features 14 tracks blending R&B, pop, piano ballads, freestyles and poignant, layered lyricism… and listeners say it was worth a six-year wait. Ahead of his performance, Sampha spoke with Vocalo host Nudia Hernandez about returning to music, the themes of his album and his work (collaborative and solo) during the past six years.
This segment originally aired on Vocalo Radio 91.1 FM during Nudia in the Afternoons on Thursday, Nov. 2. It was edited and produced by Morgan Ciocca. Keep up with Sampha on Instagram @sampha.
