Chicago Musician Akenya Transcends On ‘Moon in the 4th’

Chicago singer and multi-instrumentalist Akenya is gearing up for the release of her debut album ‘Moon in the 4th,’ drawing upon her deep connection to astrology as a second-generation astrologer. You’ve probably heard Akenya’s music already, on projects with Chance the Rapper, Smino, Noname or Saba — but she finally steps into the spotlight on her debut solo project, which she says is both long overdue and right on time. The project, led by single “Hades Moon,” invites listeners into her inner world, exploring how she has transformed her life experiences into music. Akenya sat down with Vocalo host Bekoe to discuss her musical journey, challenges as an independent artist and the anticipated release of ‘Moon in the 4th,’ which is set for release in spring 2024.
