🔹Ven.Pomnyun's Dharma Q&A
Ven. Pomnyun's Answer to " I Tend to Think Negatively and Worry A Lot"
Selection from a Dharma Q&A session
🔹Question:
As a practitioner, what efforts should I make after having self-awareness in order to reach nirvana?
For example, I tend to think negatively and worry a lot.
Those worries sometimes are overwhelming. When my parents in Korea don't pick up my calls, I worry that they might be in a car accident or they passed out and they can't answer my call.
My sister-in-law is having a baby soon. And sometimes I become anxious thinking something bad might happen to her and the baby.
When I realize this ungrounded worry, I transition that worry into a sincere wish that everything goes well and that makes me feel calmer and relieved.
Also, worries and heaviness I feel about one task evokes my habit of worrying about all the things on my to-do list and they all suddenly come to me like a giant wave, making me feel overwhelmed and helpless.
When I become aware of the state, I shift my focus to a different thing or leave my desk and computer and watch YouTube clips that make me laugh.
I also tell myself to tackle the tasks one at a time and doing so makes me feel relieved and calmer.
Am I on the right track?
