Alien abduction technology

The U.S. government has been trying to reverse engineer recovered extraterrestrial flying machines for decades, but has it also been attempting to learn how aliens are capable of abducting humans and wiping clean their memories? Also, how will disclosure by world governments that there is an extraterrestrial presence on Earth affect religions?
