This week on Two Girl Cinema Club we dive into some Wes Anderson films. Before we get to that, we discuss the breaking news of Anna Wintor stepping down as the head of Vogue and Brooke Schofield getting engaged. Hannah also watched The Iron Claw and Ailish finished the final season of You.
In honor of the Phoenician Scheme, we watched some Wes Anderson films we haven’t seen. In a previous episode, we’ll admit that we were a little skeptical of the Wes obsession, but after watching these movies, we ate our words. We started with Rushmore which was one of his first films. This one had a different vibe from some of his later works, but we liked the fantastical elements of this one. Surprisingly enough, neither of us had seen The Royal Tenenbaums before even though this is probably one of Anderson’s most famous works. Gene Hackman really stands out here and we can’t help but get a little emotional knowing what’s happened in the last few months. Life Aquatic and The Darjeeling Limited rounded out the movies we’re exploring this week. While we felt the former was a little slow, we loved the visuals in both of these and they really helped pull the whole inside the films together.
