War Films (Black Hawk Down, 1917, All Quiet on the Western Front + Bieber’s Album SWAG)

This week on Two Girl Cinema Club we watched some epic films about war. We started the episode by giving our honest opinions on Justin Bieber’s new album, SWAG. So…does that mean everything he’s been up to recently has been a well-thought plan? He did tell us he’s standing on business and it seems he meant it. The Emmy nominations were also announced and there were some big wins (Apple), surprising snubs (Handmaid’s Tale & Only Murderers), and a sore loser (Anna Camp). Ailish was able to watch Revenge, so we were able to have a full conversation about the movie as a whole, and Hannah watched Spree and Killer Klowns from Outer Space for Summerween.

Black Hawk Down is a hugely popular movie that Hannah had seen, but Ailish had not. This one is definitely a heavy watch and we both felt like we were boots on the ground because of how realistic it felt. 1917 and All Quiet on the Western Front were great movies to watch as a pair because they focus on different sides of the same war. Both of these are considered anti-war films and focus on WWI. While All Quiet garnered some criticism because it wasn’t 100% true the book, we found it to be highly impactful and we’re on the waitlist for the audiobook.
