We have a jam-packed episode this week! We finally went to see Sinners right before it leaves theatres near us, and we think it lived up to the hype. We’re just at the tip of the iceberg that is Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s career and we can’t wait to see what more is to come from both of them. We also get to discuss An American Story by Wilmer Valderrama which wasn’t what we expected at all. Since he leaves out pretty huge parts of his personal life, it’s hard to get past the idea that this wasn’t just his ploy to get some decades-long stink off himself.
Digging into our movies of the week, we start out strong with Mid90s from Jonah Hill. While we felt this movie was very niche, it did capture a period of time and the child acting was worth talking about. Talk To Me surprised both of us even though it felt a little cliche or cheesy at times. This horror movie actually had a good storyline overall, and we can easily imagine the options for the sequel. Ailish had previously seen Anatomy of a Fall, but this was Hannah’s first watch. It’s easy to see why this movie was nominated for awards and was the Palme d’Or winner at Cannes. Plus, who can get over the dog acting?! We wrap things up with Wolf of Wall Street which is a film we both have seen more than once. Even though this movie is filled with toxic masculinity, substance abuse, and crime, it’s still completely entertaining and had us laughing out loud even on our third (or so) rewatch.
