Sunday Scary Rewind: Banning Books but Keeping Phones in School (with an updated intro).

Kim and Jen thought it would be timely to re-release this episode since many Florida teachers are packing up their classrooms to avoid being convicted of a felony for having an unvetted book in their classrooms. 

Trigger warning: We discuss sensitive themes including sex and violence that we find in classic literature. We understand that some content is unsuitable for certain ages. However, if one is censoring books, one should be aware of the content in much of the literature that has been on the approved lists for decades. We aren't saying the classics should be banned, but we are proving a point that one must be well-read and well-versed in literature in a holistic manner before one bans books based on excerpts taken out of context. Why can't we choose excerpts from books that don't include questionable content but support our literary instruction?
