We had another opportunity to interview Educator Andrea. Quite a bit has changed since our first interview with her. Andrea is smart, funny, and very relatable. She recently landed a dream job as a professor teaching education classes. She will bring her humor and insight to this new opportunity.
Here is our first interview with Andrea:

Read a little about Andrea.
I was a terrible student. I know, I know. I see those kids in my class who are zoned out, not engaged, exhausted, annoyed by my interference, and I just get it. I think who I was as a student actually makes me a stronger teacher and educational researcher. I know what it takes to engage a kid like me. I always go by the mantra: if I’m bored, they’re bored. Then, I change it up.
I grew up in Southern California and attended a private Christian school, which, as I previously stated, I did not take advantage of. However, I had one teacher at that school that did get through to me: my English teacher. She handed me a B- on my paper, and she challenged me: “You can do better than this. You are capable of so much more than this, and I believe in you.” This changed me, and eventually, it led to my journey to education.
I got my bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in Education. As a first-year teacher, I was terrified and unprepared, but I fell in love with teaching immediately. To be more accurate, I fell in love with my students. Their struggles, their triumphs, and when I could make them laugh made my day. I knew that I’d found the dream career.
Eventually, I found my way to a Master’s degree in English, and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. I am passionate about teaching and helping educators connect with their students in meaningful ways.
