The Importance Of Relationships at Work

I recently read Michelle Obama’s second book, The Light We Carry.  I honestly thought that NOTHING could beat Becoming, but this was equally as good.  So pardon me, as I am on a Forever First Lady high!

Michelle Obama wisely said, "Success isn't about how much money you make; it's about the difference you make in people's lives. And this quote inspired this episode about the importance of building and maintaining meaningful professional relationships. Of course, there are several environments that you can make a difference is others’ lives, but this podcast is all about work sooo lets dive in. I want to share tips on how you can be effective in workplace relationships.

Be authentic and genuine: Just as Michelle Obama always encourages us to be true to ourselves, it is essential to approach professional relationships with authenticity. Connect with others by genuinely seeking to understand their aspirations, challenges, and strengths. When you are sincere in your interactions, you create a strong foundation for lasting relationships.

Be generous with your time and knowledge: As you progress in your career, you'll undoubtedly acquire valuable skills and insights. Share your knowledge with others and be open to learning from their experiences as well. By offering your support and expertise, you can foster a collaborative and nurturing professional environment.

Communicate effectively and actively listen: Good communication is the backbone of any strong relationship. Ensure you are clearly expressing your thoughts and actively listening to your colleagues. By being attentive and engaged, you demonstrate respect and encourage open dialogue, which leads to stronger connections.

Stay connected and follow up: We all lead busy lives, but it's important to make time to nurture your professional relationships. Reach out to your connections periodically, whether it's through a quick email, phone call, or a coffee catch-up. Show genuine interest in their lives and be ready to celebrate their achievements and offer support during challenging times.
