To me, Broken was a perfect Nine Inch Nails album because it was loaded with bangers and nothing else. The Fragile has 40 minutes of bangers and at least an hour of bloat.
When it was released, The Fragile sold massive numbers, especially for a double album. I bought it at Best Buy (paying a premium double-cd $$) and, by the time I even got home, hated it. There would be a banger, then near silence for minutes at a time because all I could hear was tire and road noise from my shitty car... I resented this album for that. Making things worse, all the songs ran together so I couldn't simply dub the bangers to a minidisc or cassette back in 1999. Within a week, I lent it out and never asked for it back.
I tossed it into a DAW and cut out all the bs. Now it slaps and would fit on one side of a 90 minute blank tape.
