With hardly any free time anymore, I’ve started cooking up vaporwave edits on the weekends to make the most of the few hours I get to myself.

During the pandemic, I discovered Vaporwave while working from home and was instantly hooked by the often repetitive, chopped-and-screwed edits of obscure ‘80s and ‘90s tracks, which reminded me of the DJ Screw tapes I used to bump back in college—especially the random ‘80s rock or R&B songs that he would slip onto those tapes. I also dug the seemingly random Windows clipart aesthetic in much of the artwork. This tape might be a departure from my usual, but I only post bangers.

These are all edits that I’ve done over the last year. The formula goes something like this: start with a pristine audio file, slow it down until it sounds "right", then experiment with different analog emulation plugins until you end up with something that could fit on a screw tape (“It’s goin’ down!”). Lastly, give the artwork a similar treatment, and you’re all set.
