My guest this episode has studied and written extensively about government finances and demographics, and I'm really pleased that he joined me for the first episode.

Richard Saillant is a respected economist and author (and a soon-to-be a PhD candidate) living in Moncton.  His most recent book is "A Tale of Two Countries: How the Great Demographic Imbalance is Pulling Canada Apart", published by Nimbus Publishing in 2016.  (My apologies to Richard; I state in the podcast that it was published in 2015.)

In the book, he makes a compelling, well-researched argument that the Maritime provinces are facing the twin challenges of aging population and less vital economy which threaten the very nature of the fabric of the country.  Our leaders would do well to heed the warning.

The book is comprehensive, but accessible. Richard is very passionate about the subject matter, but reservedly optimistic. He was very gracious with his time, and for that I'd like to thank him again.

Find Art of the Possible on Facebook here, on Twitter at @AOTPBandNB, and you can hear their debut EP "Passerby" on Spotify... it's a great listen!

Sibling duo Colin and Megan Fowlie also form the band Creative Differences, find them here.

Thanks for listening!!
