Definition:  a lack of illumination, an absence of visible light, or a surface that absorbs light, such as black; a gloomy or depressed state or tone; evil; lack of knowledge or enlightenment
Scripture:
Genesis 1:1-5In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.  God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
Isaiah 60: 1-2  “Arise, shine, for your light has come,and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.  See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you  and his glory appears over you.
John 8:12“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I  am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.\
”Matthew 5: 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
