In ancient cultures, especially in Africa and South America, we describe certain parts of those cultures as taboos. In other words, things these people won’t go near, things these people won’t do, things these tribal ancient cultures are afraid of. They have had ingrained in them since they were very very young, the fact that in addition to what they see, there are other things going on that they need to have respect for and/or fear for. So when these people become adults, you cannot speak to them as a rational Westerner and try to convince them that the things that they believe in aren’t so and the things that they think will happen to them won’t in fact happen to them.
