Instagram is still one of the best ways for artists to share their work. Éadaoin Glynn shares 18 quick and easy tips for artists that you can implement immediately! Read a more detailed explanation in my blog and see how I use Instagram on @eadaoin_glynn
- Don't worry about how many followers you have and the 'algorithm'. Engagement is more important than how many followers you have.
- Make sure you have a public account - not private. Implement Instagram's two-factor authentication.
- Your Instagram handle or username and your photo. Make sure your actual name is somewhere so people can search for you.
- Your bio appears under your name and picture. Update it as often as you like. Don't make it too long.
- Instagram gives you one link for free. Use it! If you want to share several links, use something like linktr.ee.
- Develop your Instagram voice. Share what you're comfortable with. Let people get to know the person behind the painting.
- Be consistent. Show up on Instagram.
- Manage your time. Don't spend too long scrolling.
- Post ideas for artists - a painting, your studio, you holding a painting, palette, paints, brushes, tools. Archive any posts you don't like any more.
- Hashtags: Instagram allows you a maximum of 30. Add a few and choose smaller hashtags.
- Add a location to a post, either a geographical location (e.g. Dublin, Ireland) or something evocative ( e.g ' in my heart' 'in my studio' ).
- Check and reply to your comments. Say thank you!
- Stories are the circles at the top of your feed. They are more casual and intimate than your posts and disappear after 24 hours.
- You can save a story as a highlight. Highlights are the little circles at the top of grid under your bio.
- Reels - video is powerful. Try making a time-lapse video of a painting session.
- Reel cover - choose a still image from your video or a photo from your camera roll. Don't forget to check how the it looks in your grid post and adjust if needed.
- Community - be supportive, share artists' posts and exhibitions to your stories.
- Learn by doing. Don't overthink it, forget about being perfect. Have fun with it!
