This UNCORK conversation with my friend and your historian Craig Minchin is inspired by the awfulness of 10 days and an adventure of 72 days, 6 hours, 11 minutes and 14 seconds. 

Craig and I UNCORK some exquisite Irish whiskey and American bourbon and chat about the amazingly insightful and inspiring life and work of one of the foremost female journalists of the 19th century. Nellie Bly (born in 1864) found the truth in what we wish was fiction and the fact in the fiction book that inspired her to circle the globe. 

During our conversation, we press into these ideas: What being a voice for the voiceless and risking your safety and sanity can do for others. How being both selfless and selfish is a reality for all of us. And how the frailty of our humanity honestly expressed can motivate and inspire everyone around us.

Nellie Bly was driven to uncover uncomfortable truths and inspired to make fiction fact. She went undercover & around the world. She had real chutzpah and wrote and spoke “truth to the power” before it was a thing. And she harnessed the energy of her curiosity and married it with courage and compassion to create social change.
