Jean Peet had a heart attack while putting on her walking boots one Sunday morning during lockdown in May 2020. On this episode, Bill Snaddon from the BHF speaks with Jean about how her heart attack left her feeling vulnerable and, at times, alone. Jean also talks about how she drew strength from her past, and from strangers who knew what she was going through.

Coronary heart disease kills more than twice as many women as breast cancer in the UK every year, and it’s the single biggest killer of women worldwide. Despite this, heart disease is often considered a man’s disease. 800,000 women in the UK are living with coronary heart disease, which is the main cause of heart attacks. 35,000 women every year are admitted to hospital following a heart attack – that’s an average of 98 women a day, or 4 per hour.
