Bart Oates has three Super Bowl victories, two of which are with the New York Giants, and one is with the San Francisco 49ers. Retired from his career as a starting-center, playing in the NFL for 11 years, Bart is now the President of the NFL Alumni Association. NFL careers can have a short life, and what to do afterward has its challenges. • You don’t see an old-timers game as you do with baseball or basketball. When a football player is done with the game, they are DONE with the game.
• I played 14 years, and I had a hard time walking away from the game.
• “Everything is secondary to the team.”
• You don’t have to play the game to be a good coach, and just because you have played the game doesn’t mean you’ll be a good coach.
