‘Be kind to yourself and do things by increments, begin by drinking more water and doing some exercise’
In this episode, Steven is in a fascinating conversation with Peter Marcasciano, a personal trainer.
Peter shares his extensive knowledge and experience about how we as humans have evolved and how understanding our past is the key to knowing how we should be exercising and eating now.
This is a fascinating insight into the science and history behind the foods we eat and the ways we exercise, listen in to find out exactly how what you eat impacts on your body and how you exercise influences fitness.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Peter Marcasciano ‘Yoda’ is a specialist in physiotherapy, strength, conditioning and nutrition. He trains and oversees the fitness and well-being of both athletes and high-profile clients. He works with individuals to achieve optimum well-being and performance.
What type of training should the typical individual, who wants to be fit and strong be doing?
As Primates, we are designed for walking and jogging. We are designed to walk or jog all day, there are no other species on the planet designed to do what we do.
We are born to squat and throw and climb.
No other animal can throw at speed as well as we can.
If you walk, jog, squat, throw and climb you will be very healthy.
If you are training you want to be fit, strong, powerful and endurable with speed
Long term research into wellbeing has shown that people who are successful, healthy and get things done all share the common parameter of regular activity.
This is not necessarily exercise, it could be gardening, but it is something continuous, something that increased blood flow.
With walking, you are meeting the biological imperative, blood flow. Without blood flow you have nothing.
What should we know about nutrition?
We are omnivores, able to eat anything. We are designed to eat meat, but the organ meats are the most nutrient dense parts of the body.
We are not designed to need meat every day, but it is a necessary part of our diets
It all comes down to diet, but the most difficult aspect is minerals.
If you eat natural food you will have everything you need from that food in a perfect package.
We are wonderfully designed, the first thing that anything entering the human body encounters is the acid of the stomach.
Your parasympathetic system is regulating and balancing within your body all the time enabling your body to be in homeostasis.
Most people now only eat food from 4 different food groups whilst our ancestors as foragers ate from 100 plus different foods.
Go back to basics, go back to what we know our ancestors did, it’s very simple
Why should you avoid heating food quickly, using technology?
Microwaves heat from within. In heating from the inside, the cell bursts outwards and is damaged.
Microwaves alter the shape of molecules and in rearranging the shape of the molecules and the ability of the human body to use them is destroyed.
The best investment you can ever make is in yourself.
You have to pursue something that has meaning for you.
