Sportspeople (athletes, trainers, coaches, etc.) aren’t susceptible to mental health problems just like everyone else. There’s too much pressure and too much stereotyping (hello machismo!) that need to be changed/removed in professional sports.
In this episode of The Steven Sully Study Podcast, Steven chats with Pace Journal Creative Director Shahbaz Choudhry about his personal experiences, his business, and his advocacies. Lately, he has been very passionate about bringing forward mental health awareness to the sports community. For example, in the recently-launched song he has helped produced, which was titled ‘Keep Balanced’, he wants to initiate more conversations about balancing physical & mental wellbeing to fully live one’s dreams. Shahbaz tells more about this today, so listen in.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Shahbaz started Pace Journal as an escape or a buffer from cricket. Through Pace Journal, people can learn everything about fast bowling and hear stories from professional bowlers.
Shahbaz helped produced the ‘world’s fast bowling anthem’ Keep Balanced, which was sang by Base Staxckz. It aims to encourage mental health awareness not just for the athletes, but for everyone. The beats are perfect to pump you up before any game.
They just recently concluded the filming of its music video. Shahbaz and his team have been working hard and are very proud of their work. It will be launched soon.
There isn’t a specific pathway to success. Yours will differ from the others—from the successful entrepreneurs, from your mentors, from your colleagues, etc. But, if you find what’s suitable for you, then success will come.
BEST MOMENTS
“You’re going to need to find that balance where you’re doing enough but also not overdoing it to the point that it’s clouding your judgment.”
“…What it means to me is when you get to that moment whether it’s adversity in life, going through a struggle, or going through a very important scenario, you need to keep your emotions balanced.”
“I had a dream; I didn’t live the dream. My dream is for you guys know.”
“If you’re feeling down or depressed that this isn’t working for you, just remember that the skills and the experience can be used elsewhere.”

ABOUT THE HOST
The Steven Sulley Study is my take on success. My view is you should focus on several key areas to be a well-rounded individual. Success should not be just one thing like money, for example, it should also comprise a healthy fit lifestyle and thriving relationships. As a person who has made a success in life and also made some cock-ups, I can offer suggestions and tips on how to become successful or at least start your pursuit of success.
I started from leaving school at 16 with very poor school results to pursue a career in plumbing following the directions of my parents that then lead me to a barrister's chamber and then to a sales floor. From here, I established a foothold in the sales market promoting financial products as well as being a founder of an art agency that has a Soho based art studio.
In addition, I have invested into an urban fashion brand and into a wellness tech company, and my latest addition to the business portfolio is a property company that which creates HMO's in Medway, Kent. The diverse range of industries I find myself in has allowed me to create wealth that enables me to be my own boss so I can pursue my dreams.
As a former boxer and avid sportsman, I find there are similarities between the running of businesses and competing. In my episodes, I will be sharing some of my experiences to explore deeper these connections and how they may bring you success."
