Steven has journeyed to the English Institute of Sports in Sheffield to meet former professional boxer, Richie Woodhall, who from 1990 to 2000, blazed a trail through the boxing world, holding the WBC Super Middleweight title, as well as the Commonwealth middleweight title, European middleweight title, and Olympic medals.
Richie talks to Steven about his incredible story so far, which has seen him successfully transition from pro-sportsman, to pro-broadcaster, and even to work in movies.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

There seems to be a period in each potential sportsperson’s life, generally at the end of the teens, in which they must choose whether to follow their passion into sports, or indulge in the more carefree lifestyle. The great ones choose to remain focussed.

Role models are critical in life. They can inspire and lead you to success. But it’s equally as important to become the role model when you find success.

Boxing should be reintegrated into school learning from a young age. It teaches discipline and encourages their character and emotions to be tested. It’s all about controlling aggression and developing respect.

If you want something in life, you need to be prepared to give it all to achieve your dream. It’s the dedicated people who get there.

If you have a goal in life, nothing can ever prepare you for the moment in which you get there. For Richie, the defining moment in his career, when he won the world title on home soil, the feeling was of relief and deflation, and not a desire to celebrate and indulge.

There is a paradox in life. If our goals are pure, and if our desire is legitimate, then reaching the goal can be a deflating experience. It’s important to plan for what comes next.

It’s always wise to line your next goal up when you hit your current one. Put another iron in the fire. Get financially educated and invest wisely. Live for today but live for the future, too.

BEST MOMENTS

‘Being Brad Pitt’s body double is definitely a good chat up line’
‘You have to put back. It’s your duty’
‘Boxing would be a major asset to the school curriculum’
‘It’s only the dedicated people who get there’
’This guy was my hardest fight!’
‘What am I going to win now?'

ABOUT THE HOST
The Steven Sulley Study is my take on success. My view is you should have multiple focuses to be a well-rounded individual. Success shouldn't be just one thing like money, for example, it should also consist of a healthy fit lifestyle and thriving relationships.
As a person who has made a success in life and also made huge cock-ups I feel I can offer suggestions and tips on how to become successful or at least start your pursuit. My 'Study' has taken resources from reading and education plus being around, my perception, of successful people and I, know a lot of successful people from all walks of life.
My 'Study' coming from my experiences in business, investing, sales (my core background), training, boxing and education has enabled me to become well rounded and successful and I will help you in these key areas too.
