Katie Eary is living proof of the fact that you can achieve your dream if you work hard enough at it. From humble beginnings, Katie applied herself, got her MA from the Royal College Of Art, and has designed for everyone from British Vogue to Kanye West, and has had her designs photographed by the likes of Mario Testino.
Katie meets Steven on this episode to talk about the wild journey she’s still on to this day; a creative, inspiring tale of how important is to keep following your dreams, and what can happen if you do.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
Fashion looks like an art, but is very much a business. Putting a foot wrong in terms of taste can lead to the end of someone’s livelihood. The fun and the risk seem to have been taken out of the creative process.
Art is so subjective. Depending on where you come from, you’ll see a piece of art in a totally different way. This is the magic of art.
When Katie started out, it was perfectly acceptable to receive payment in the form of coverage. Sometimes Katie would take a job because of the promotion it could bring. Nowadays things are different.
People with money have changed these days. There are more millionaires. Younger people seem to have more money, and aren’t necessarily seeking out the classics. They’re into street art and pop art, and seem to be spending on pieces that mean sometime thing to them.
People are very quick to judge celebrities based on the way they’re presented in the media. Katie knows Kanye West very well, and has met Kim Kardashian several times, and has found them to be wonderfully approachable and far more down-to-earth than they are portrayed.
There seems to be a growing sense of younger people investing in art. These investments have far more longevity that simply buying clothes or other items that can’t stand the test of time..
