Hard work. Determination. Discipline. These are what we can learn best from professional athletes. Olympics may be just plain enjoyment for most of us, but for the athletes, it’s a serious matter – a huge milestone in their career and a dream come true.
Today on The Steven Sully Study Podcast, we get to hear the story of British track and field sprinter Conrad Williams. Discover how he landed a spot on the British team which took part at the 2012 Summer Olympics from just taking part in small county races. It wasn’t a level fat to traverse.
In this episode also, Conrad gives advice for new and aspiring athletes out there. These can even be useful to entrepreneurs if they want to explore a different perspective on how they should take their journey.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
From county race to world championship, Conrad went through every step. He trained and improved every single day just to move higher and higher.
People can learn a lot from professional athletes. Their determination, discipline, and regard for achieving success is incomparable. Unlike other professions, they don’t have rest. They need to be mindful of their health and fitness 24/7 since this will affect the future of their careers.
Joining the Olympics was a dream come true. Conrad has sacrificed so much (i.e. social and leisure activities) to invest more time on training to join the national team. And he’s grateful his loved ones are supportive of his journey.
Conrad is also passionate about helping young athletes develop and get to the next level of their career. He wants to share his knowledge and expertise in sports training all over the world.
Advice for those who want to be a successful professional athlete: Be patient and don’t compare yourself to anyone. Set realistic goals and after you reach each of them, set your bar higher.

ABOUT THE HOST
The Steven Sulley Study is my take on success. My view is you should focus on several key areas to be a well-rounded individual. Success should not be just one thing like money, for example, it should also comprise a healthy fit lifestyle and thriving relationships. As a person who has made a success in life and also made some cock-ups, I can offer suggestions and tips on how to become successful or at least start your pursuit of success.
I started from leaving school at 16 with very poor school results to pursue a career in plumbing following the directions of my parents that then lead me to a barrister's chamber and then to a sales floor. From here, I established a foothold in the sales market promoting financial products and being a founder of an art agency that has a Soho based art studio.
In addition, I have invested into an urban fashion brand and into a wellness tech company, and my latest addition to the business portfolio is a property company that which creates HMO's in Medway, Kent. The diverse range of industries I find myself in has allowed me to create wealth that enables me to be my boss so I can pursue my dreams.
As a former boxer and avid sportsman, I find there are similarities between the running of businesses and competing. In my episodes, I will share some of my experiences to explore deeper these connections and how they may bring you success."
