High Fantasy Vol. 1 - You Meet In A Cavern

Our heroes, after emerging from the orange portal high as ever, find themselves standing in the plains before a mountain range, in a torrential downpour.

Despite Ballraq’s class, he’s little help in finding shelter… Luckily, Astaroth’s superior perception roll helps the party locate a nearby cave to shield them from the rain.

The party builds a rudimentary camp and settles in for a much needed rest with Ballraq offering to take first watch.

Just when the party has drifted off to restorative sleep, Ballraq jolts Astaroth awake prompted by a curious whistling noise emanating from deeper within the cave. 

Astaroth, Vasilius, and Ballraq delve deeper into the cave to investigate. With their vision aided by Vasilius’s new toy, the drift globe, our heroes identify the source of the whistling - an owlbear stranded on a nearby ledge.

After a quick moral argument, our “heroes” decide it best to allow nature to take its course and leave the owlbear to its fate. 

Circled again around their makeshift camp, our heroes drift back to sleep with Astaroth taking up watch duties this time…

Taunted by the despondent cries of the stranded owlbear, Astaroth wanders from the camp briefly to share some provisions with the creature but, otherwise, completes his watch without incident.

Now nearly rested, the party, despite their gut feeling, allows young Jonas the last watch of the eve…

Mistakes were made and the party is awakened by Jonas’s bloodcurdling scream pouring out from an unknown location deep within the cave. 

Without thinking, Astaroth, Ballraq, and Vasilius fly off into the darkness to rescue their companion… 

Careening through the dark, our heroes are assaulted by a shower of pebbles but, thanks to Astaroth’s dark vision, they quickly identify the assailants as a band of kobolds.

Astaroth is so focused on making his identification, he stumbles and incurs damage in the clutches of a kobold trap.

This time proceeding forward with caution, our heroes carry on exterminating kobold pests as they continue their search.

Vasilius employs some particularly powerful magic to tip the scales in their favor and, after  Astaroth’s dispatching of a particularly well endowed kobold, our heroes find Jonas unconscious on the ground of a cavern surrounded by several ominous looking eggs…

Have our heroes successfully located their companion and breakfast or, will the next surprise lurking the cave’s depths spoil our heroes’ HIGH FANTASY!!!!
