Welcome back to Part 4 of our five-part series to help you navigate the messiness of separation, family law, or honestly—any big life change. This week, we’re diving into something I’m super passionate about: the hidden support system every family law client needs—but almost nobody talks about.
Now, this isn’t just about having a lawyer or chatting to your mum. I’m talking about creating a real, strategic support network—one that’s going to carry you through the tough bits, keep you grounded, and protect your mental and emotional energy.
Let me be blunt: traditional support systems often fall short. Friends and family can mean well, but they’re usually emotionally involved, biased, or worse—accidentally giving you terrible advice based on what their neighbor’s cousin’s divorce looked like. And don’t even get me started on the “Facebook lawyers” dishing out random legal opinions in online groups. Please. Stop. Doing. That.
In this episode, I unpack:
Why emotional support from friends/family isn’t always helpful
How social media can sabotage your separation (yep, even a single post)
The types of professional support you actually need—legal, financial, mental health, and more
How to set boundaries, create a support schedule, and protect your energy
Why venting to your lawyer (yes, me!) is safer than texting your ex
I've seen too many clients spiral because they didn’t have the right people in their corner. And I’ve learned that being “just a lawyer” isn’t enough anymore—that’s why I became a mindfulness instructor and clinical hypnotherapist too. Because legal problems don’t exist in a vacuum. Life is messy, emotions are real, and no one gets through this stuff alone.
So let’s talk about what true support looks like. And if this episode resonates with you or you know someone who’s walking through a separation right now, share this with them. Also, if there’s a topic you want covered in a future episode—DM us or reach out. We create this for you.
