On a future show, The Spaniard will talk to John Gronski about his distinguished 40-year military career, which included time with Jocko Willink in Iraq. But this episode focuses on the young Gronski family when they rode across the United States for three months in 1983. John, his wife Berti, and their 15-month-old son Stephen encountered snow, rain, heat, locusts and all manner of bicycle breakdowns along the way, but the adventure, scenery, lessons, and the kindness of strangers make John say it was ”The Ride of Our Lives” (the title of his new book).
