On this short video I talk about my obsession with Superman as a kid, and my love affair for his larger than life goodness and kindness, his unwavering altruism and adherence to doing the right thing. Honest, fair, decent, helpful, incorruptible, and always there to help make the world a better, safer place. As I got older, Batman sorta replaced Superman for a time as my favorite superhero as I grew into my teen years and discovered my "dark side" if you will. That is, until I got older and started seeing the chaos and evil in the world, and people giving up and giving in to defeat and tyranny so easily.
I began to see the true ugliness in the world, and the absolute necessity for more boy scouts and incorruptible "heroes" in the world like Superman and Captain America. We need more Super Men and Super Women! Here, I talk about how I've always wanted to be one of the good guys, one of the strong ones, and how I've always tried to emulate my inner boy scout, the helper, the soldier, the good guy, my inner Superman, to become the change the world so desperately needs. I'm far from perfect. But I have found a lot of clarity and goodness within, and try to harness that for the greater good, for a personal sense of moral clarity, purpose, and strength within.
The world isn't lost or evil but if often feels that way. it's just that, some people aren't right in the head, and it makes it seem that the world is much more terrible than it really is. I've grown to understand that change and good doesn't come from waiting idly by hoping for others to do good things, or waiting for Superman. It comes from personal strength, goodness, resolve, a sense of pride and purpose, and a personal sense of purity and wholesomeness within.
We can't keep waiting for a Superman that may never come. But we can certainly share Superman's inspiration and values and learn from his teachings. It's all about adhering to a sense of doing the right thing, always. That doesn't mean we won't falter or fail. It just means that we have to keep trying to create the world we need and deserve, and to keep on representing good values, and truth, justice, and the American (or humanistic) way!
