Simple present
The simple present is a tense with two main uses. We use the simple present tense when an action is happening right now, or when it occurs regularly (or incessantly, which is why it is sometimes called present indefinite). Depending on the person, the simple present tense is formed using the root form or by adding –s or -es to the end.
For this there are rules that we must follow, so that the writing and its use are correct.
In the simple present, most regular verbs use the root form, except in the third person singular (which ends in -s).
•When we talk about third persons such as (he, she , it ) , s or es is added to the end of the verb, depending on the ending of the verbs, for example: if they end in s, ss , sh , ch or x , it is added es to the end of the verb.
Example: wash - washes
My mother washes the dishes after lunch.
•Verbs that end in or have es added.
Example: go - goes
Tom goes to Cancun by plane.
•For verbs ending in and preceded by a consonant, the y is changed to i and es is added.
Example:.study - studies
NASA studies the global water cycle
•All other verbs have only s added at the end.
Simple present (negative)
In order to make sentences in the simple present negative we need to use two auxiliaries that are the Do and Does .
Do we use when we talk about I, you , we , they .
do not = don ́t (contraction)
For example : I do not go to school on weekends . (No contraction)
Mario and Alex don ́t play soccer in our team . (With contraction)
Does we use when we speak of third parties such as he, she , it .
does not = doesn ́t (contraction)
For example : Pedro does not like rock music . ( no contraction)
She doesn ́t eat cereal for dinner . ( with contraction)
* Note : with the auxiliary does you no longer add s or it is final to the verb.
How to ask a question
The formula to ask a question in the present simple is do / does + [its object] + [root form of the verb].
For example: Do you know how to bake a cake?
How much does Pauline love cake ?
